Today, being the first of the New Year, it was time to put away the Christmas decorations. Not like when I was a kid and we had only just put the decorations up on Christmas Eve and they had to stay up through January. Nope. New year means Christmas is over. Bye bye decorations.
Down came the artificial tree (Husband took it to the basement and reassembled it there). Ornaments all carefully boxed up in one bin, stockings and stuffed animals and stocking hangers in another bin, lights in another bin. Christmas cards and wrapping paper in yet another. Wreath in it's own container. Down to the basement they went.
Then I decided to clean the "Library." It's a room that is intended as the office, though we use a back room on the first floor for the office instead. We have a bookcase in this room, the grandfather clock from my family, and a rocking chair. That's about it. When we were at Christmas dinner at my father-in-law's house, they gave us a table with a black marble top on it. So I decided to create a "reading nook" in the Library. That took some doing. See, we have a lot of books. And only one bookcase. So most of our books are stacked in this room on the floor. As are the DVD's and blu-ray discs we own. This is also the room where I store my cross-stitch paraphernalia. So it's a real cluttered room.
I spent most of the room tidying and putting things away. I put a lamp on the table and my ipod speaker dock. I had music while I created better piles, cleaned up my cross-stitch stuff that was all over the floor, and moved things around. Now I have a neat little nook for reading/listening to music.
Yesterday, I'd continued my cleaning spree and cleared off the desk in the office somewhat. Got rid of a lot of paper clutter. So, to clear out the Office some more, I moved all of my Wilton candy making and cake decorating stuff into a nice corner in the Library -which is really more of a hobby area now.
The Library still has some "decorative" items that we haven't found homes for yet: the pewter collection that was my mother-in-law's, the dragonfly plates that were a gift to me from the Aunts, several Longaberger baskets from when I worked there, and a few other odds and ends. There was also a Michael Parks framed print we bought when we moved into the old house. Husband hung that in the Dining Room for me today. We had planned all along to hang it in there - even picked the red paint under the chair rail to go with the red in the print. Now it's actually there. I feel like I accomplished a lot today - even with enjoying the Rose Bowl game (though Wisconsin lost) with my husband. Now, what to do tomorrow and Monday since I have two days off before I return to work. . . . ?
