We've already done this - sort of. When we moved in, we put a crock of spatulas next to the stove. Then we decided which gadgets went in which drawer based on how we would use them. Top drawer holds items we would reach for while cooking: tongs, spatulas, and wooden spoons. The second drawer holds items we use often: measuring cups/spoons, can opener, whisks, thermometers, pastry cutter, and the like. The third drawer holds items we use least often - turkey lifter, garlic peeler (this should really be in the 2nd drawer, I think!), apple corer, twine, egg separator, etc. The fourth drawer holds our kitchen towels. We have a drawer in the island that stores our graters, splatter screens, and zester - things that in the other drawers would cut us when rooting around for them. Since this is the biggest house I will ever own, if the gadgets don't fit in these drawers, we don't need it. I remember that each time I'm invited to a Pampered Chef party!Clean up the utensil drawer by moving the four or five things you reach for most often to a counter top canister or crock. Take stock of what's left and toss anything superfluous. You'll be pleased when you can slide the drawer open and closed without it jamming.
So, since this one is crossed off the list, I did something else: I cleared my night stand. I brought down my cupcake book and cake decorating book that I've been long done reading. I grabbed the magazine clippings that I'd piled up and put them in the file folder on the desk marked "magazine clippings" (yes, I know, I'm just moving the stuff around. But it's CLOSER to where it needs to be.) I put magazines I was done reading in one of two piles - recycling or pass on to my sister. Not a lot, but I put in a LONG day at work today. The next two will be longer since my boss will be out. I'm sending thoughts & prayers to his family, as his mother-in-law passed away last night.
